Description
Description from Possibility Place: New England Aster produces dense clusters of deep purple, daisy-like flowers at the terminal end of the plant. Each individual flower is up to 1.5 inches across. As with all asters, it blooms late summer to early fall, lasts about 2 months, and attracts a wide range of bees, butterflies and other pollinators looking for their last bit of nectar and pollen for the season. This plant spreads by seed and by rhizomes, often forming colonies. Colonies can become quite large under the right conditions. This plant should be placed in the back of garden landscapes since lower leaves will often turn brown and drop off during hot summer months.
